Let’s get one thing clear, this is not an Aston Martin DB11, and if we take a closer look, it quickly becomes rather apparent that this model is noticeably shorter in overall length than the DB11. Furthermore the driver’s seating position indicates this car to be more of a compact two-seater when compared to DB11 which is a 2+2.
Technical details
It’s no coincidence the new Vantage closely resembles the DB11, as the new Vantage housing will be built around a shortened variation of the DB11’s aluminum platform. The interior fixtures and fittings will also be DB11 cloned, with Mercedes being the current technical partner providing the electrical architecture.
Although the new Vantage will be smaller than the DB11, it’s expected to be a little longer and wider than the current Vantage.
Looking closely at what beats under bonnet, we see that the technical partnership continues on the engine front, in a form of a 4.0 liter V8 AMG twin-turbo. The 4.0 V8 is likely to be offered in two power outputs for the Vantage, and as there will be space aplenty under the bonnet to house the DB11’s 5.2-litre V12 too, so who’s to say Aston won’t be thinking of creating a V12 Vantage version.
Following with the trend for auto-only gearboxes now regularly seen in the high-end sports cars, the Vantage will be offered with a six-speed manual gearbox, and an auto option is highly likely to accompany the standard manual in the near future.
The new Vantage is scheduled for launch in autumn 2017, with an open-top Roadster model possibly hitting the showrooms around six to nine months later, arriving in 2018.
