Audi is set to reveal the production version of its e-tron electric SUV at their second annual Audi Summit event, scheduled for August 30-2018 in Brussels, and we will be there to bring even more news for you.
Brussel is an appropriate venue for e-Tron debut, where the electric SUV will enter production.
There is even more good news, Audi will also use its Belgian plant to build a more coupe-like version of the e-tron named the e-tron Sportback. Production on the Sportback version is to commence in 2019.
The e-tron root dates back to 2009, when Audi announced an electric concept car based on the R8 supercar. Since then, the name has been applied to the A3 e-tron and Q7 e-tron plug-in hybrids.
Look even closer and you will find the name also associated with the production version of the R8 e-tron, which was canceled after just one year and fewer than 100 delivered.
As usual Audi is keeping the e-Tron spec close to their heart and is waiting until the unveiling ceremony at the summit to confirm the specs.
Audi has hinted at a range of at least 250 miles, with a 150-kilowatt fast-charging system will provide 80 percent charge in about 30min.
More Assumptions
In the original e-tron quattro concept which was unveiled back in 2015, a single electric motor, carrying a 95-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery, sat at the front axle and two more motors were fitted at the rear.
This provided a Peak output around 430 bhp, choose energy boost mode and you are able to increase this to 496 hp momentarily.
So that was then, how about now? As mentioned Audi is keeping things close to their heart, but if we are analysing hints correctly, we do expect to see a range of at least 250 miles.
Road Ahead
The road ahead will see Audi release two more electric cars by 2020.
Shortly after the arrival of the e-tron, we’ll see the release of close cousin e-tron Sportback.
The second model believed to be more of a city ca, aimed to bash heads with BMW i3.
Interestingly, some of Audi’s electric cars will feature Solar cells on the roof.
The generated energy will only be used to power ancillaries like the air conditioner or seat heaters and hopefully coffee makers (gap in the market) shaving a little bit of extra energy to increase range.
